If you read Travis Barker's Interviews he is constantly trying to pass himself up as a drumming genius.....Listen to his many drumsolos and tell me if that is not some overated stuff....
His rudiments are tight..His Time is solid..
no question he can play good punk rock .....I just don't like his attitude. He is not some super session artist .Playing jazz in your high school jazz band does not automatically make you a jazz musician.....

The players that we talk about here at HOD..Are more drumming than hype...All of the cats we talk about here are the best not cos of their egos but because of thier style....

Just a thought

Hey people,
Some of you probably know me from the Drumsmith, Pearl, drumheads, or drum-talk forum. I heard this was a great forum so I wanted to be a part of it and contribute when I could.

I hope I enjoy myself

While I personally hate Blink's music I do think Travis is a really great player. Obviously not the caliber of the guys most of us talk about here but I for one respect him.

btw, I have seen some drum solo clips on WinMX that were impressive. Perhaps not groundbreaking but very good nonetheless.

Likewise with Joey, I wish my feet were that good.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I can appreciate that these guys are playing....Maybe it's just me..But I seem to get inspired by those guys who set the pace...ie for dbl bass the names..(Donati,Hoglan,Minneman,Lombardo,Lang,and many others come to mind before Slipknot1 or Travis Barker).or for Funk Music (I'd go with Pretty,Clyde,Jabo,Bigfoot,Prince,Stevie,Paul Humphrey,Brady Blade,Ed Greene,Ferrone, and many others over say Chad Smith,Chad Sexton,Dean Butterworth, etc etc)......

I'm just glad that here is a msg board where average joe's like us can talk about the drumming monsters of our time......Withount the MTV kid hype that pervades alot of other drum forum discussions...Which seem to be run by Joey Jordison/Travis Barker/Mike Portnoy heads.....

I agree with Manos about Portnoy....He is overated in my book.......Nowhere near Bruford or NeilP or anyone for that matter......

P - you had me, except for the statement that lumped Lombard-o in w those other DB GIANTS.... [methinks P mightve been a lil "off Track" on that one]

Fuse - Perhaps Lombardo is out of his league in my last post....Lombardo was my gateway into the world of dbl bass....So naturally I have a affinity for his work with Slayer......
However if you put him in a room with those other giants...Well I'm sure that Dave would be the "student".........
